Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is the crime of using force, fraud, or coercion to compel an individual to work or to engage in a commercial sex act. Perpetrators often take advantage of those facing financial hardship or experiencing traumatic events, placing refugees from global conflicts at greater risk of falling prey to human trafficking.

US Federal Data

According to the Human Trafficking Institute, there have been almost 9,000 victims of human trafficking from 2000 through 2021. This data only accounts for human trafficking cases prosecuted in the federal court system, indicating there are many more victims who remain unheard or prosecuted at the state level.
